Movember, Day 1

Movember 2012, Day 1

My face was freezing this morning in the 36° weather we currently find ourselves in. It wasn’t solely because of the temperature though; it was because, other than a few brief moments, I haven’t been clean-shaven in about 5 years or so. It’s a foreign feeling not having whiskers, but it’s for a good cause: men’s health issues.

If you aren’t already aware, the Movember Foundation raises awareness, and money, for men’s health issues, focusing on testicular and prostate cancer. From their website:

Movember is the month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues. Men grow and women support a Mo (moustache) for 30 days to become walking, talking billboards, for our men’s health causes – prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

I’ve talked before about how it’s good to give, when I last participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser, so I won’t rehash why it’s good to do good deeds and support worthy causes. This time I’ll just hope my friends, family, and internet wanderers will donate money for the chance to see me wear a mustache again; if that’s not enough incentive, then maybe you know someone who is affected by prostate or testicular cancer, another men’s health issue, or is simply a man (or growing boy) who can change the face of men’s health. Whatever spurs you to action, I would appreciate your support in my mustache growing efforts.
